Go back to basics for a healthy 2018

With the New Year upon us, many people’s thoughts turn to getting fit and healthy. This can be a confusing time! With so much conflicting information on the best route to take, it’s hard to come up with a plan that gives you confidence. In this article we go back to basics. These simple, common sense tips are proven to work. They’re effective, simple and if you follow them, they will make 2018 a fit and healthy year for you!

Eat natural foods

A simple and effective way to start your new healthy lifestyle is to eat all-natural foods. Cut out anything processed and opt for fruits, vegetables, lean meats,

nuts and seeds. This will cut down the sugars, salts and additives that set your diet back.

Mix these with salads, soups, stir-frys and stews. By doing this you will boost your system with natural goodness and kick start your New Year.

Start moving more

Forget about extravagant fitness plans to begin with. The basics will work just fine. Start by just moving a little more: walk more, use the stairs, and make sure you get those 10,000 steps in. Add some basics bodyweight exercises, such as squats, lunges, press-ups and the plank, and this will build a great foundation for your fitness.

Set simple goals

Keep the goal easy to follow, such losing 1-2lbs a week, or entering a 10k run a few months away. Set a goal that you think is achievable to you for your current fitness level. This will give you something to focus on, work towards and will keep you on track.

Join a fitness group

Joining a fitness group is a great way to make exercise more fun and exciting. It is a cool way to learn about exercise and be taught by a professional. Also it’s a fantastic way to meet like-minded people who are all working towards a similar goal. There are plenty of options in Melton, whether it’s running, boxing, rugby, dancing or circuit training.
